Instructor Qualifications
Hair Design diploma with 3 years Salon experience and a member in good standing CIABC.

I have had the pleasure of working for the Utopia Group for over seven years now. First at Spa Utopia in Langley and now as Administrator at Utopia Academy in Abbotsford.

For the past three years I have also been passionately involved as a committee member of the Utopia Foundation. Raising money for charities both internationally and locally through the generous help of staff, owners and shareholders has truly enriched my life.

I began my professional Hair Design career upon the completion of my cosmetology licensing exam in 1997. From there my passions lead me to assist in salon for a year then utilize my talents by performing services on guests for the next seven years in salon. After many years in salon I had discovered that my true passion lies in teaching and to pass on to others the desire, passion, knowledge and success that I had obtained.

I started with Utopia Academy teaching part time and working in salon part time for a year in 2003, the position then evolved into full time. Since that time I have achieved the position of Senior Hair Design Instructor along with the completion of the Provincial Instructor Diploma Program and since started the Adult Education Diploma Program along with attending various Hair Design classes, trade shows, and teaching seminars. My belief is that learning is life long and each individual is powerful beyond measure. It is my personal goal to assist my students in achieving individual success.

I enjoy leading the confident and supportive team of talented educators at Utopia Academy.

After receiving my Cosmetologist Diploma in 1992, I have worked in the beauty industry in a number of capacities. First, as a stylist which allowed me to develop and explore my creativity and passion. Then, as an owner of a successful salon where I discovered and developed a great appreciation for professionalism and education. Now, as an Educator I find that the passion for my craft is heightened. My desire is to provide students with cutting edge skills and knowledge geared to an ever evolving industry. I feel proud that I work for a company where I can offer a safe, supportive, and fun learning environment that achieves my goals.

I have been involved in the Hair and Beauty industry for 26 years, teaching for 16 of those years. As a western Canadian Educator for both Joico and L’Oreal I discovered my greatest passion – teaching and color. I love to motivate and encourage students to succeed in all aspects of Hair Design, especially color and I have recently completed my Provincial Teaching Diploma.

I believe that education should be a balance of discovery, information and fun. My goal to teach students a career, not just a job. I enjoy sharing my experiences with students and in my spare time I enjoy martial arts and weekend camping adventures with my two sons.

“Utopia Academy has dedicated, enthusiastic instructors who are always available for their students. They take time to teach (and re-teach, if necessary) until everyone understands. ”
