Semester 1 consists of an 8 week core curriculum that is broken down to focus toward hair design aspects, concepts, techniques, and application including also the development of ones professional self, procedures, practices, sanitation, safety, hair cutting, design and finishing. With a 50% percent ratio of Theory to Practical exercises in a class room setting the students reinforce concepts and become comfortable with their skill set before performing services on clients.
Detailed descriptionThe students move onto the clinic floor and work with clients/guests in a supervised and supportive environment. In semester 2, the focus is on all aspects of Hair Colouring, from basic theory, application, and highlights, to more advanced concepts and techniques. Student self sufficiency in formulation and application is stressed, as is creativity in the application of theoretical learning and colour, to the overall design of the hairstyle.
Detailed descriptionThe theory focus is on basic skin care and make up application, along with chemical alteration of hair, in a variety of chemical texturizing applications such as perming, (including basic and specialty wraps), chemical relaxing, and soft curl permanent waves. Technical focus is on hair wrapping, sectioning and desired result, along with the application of design aspects to suit and enhance to overall look.
Detailed descriptionThe focus on clinic floor work becomes more advanced as students are introduced to a variety of cutting tools, and advanced cutting applications. The theory focus of semester 4 is on the sciences that are relevant to hair design, ie: anatomy, physiology, chemistry and electricity. The second half of semester 4 prepares the student for final exams, including a mock run of the Cosmetology Industry standard exams, and a practical and written Academy exam that focuses on real world salon competencies.
Detailed descriptionThe final semester of the course (week 33 – 40), through assignments that encourage and explore employability skills, salon ethics, clientele building and retention, job search skills, advanced hair colouring, Advanced hair cutting, salon business and design. The clinic floor focus is on the ability to provide quality work within realistic salon time frames. Also, students are encouraged to expand on their current level of skill set and understanding through challenges and taking calculated risk with their tools, and build on basic concepts The overall goal of semester 5 is to help you become truly employable.
